Applications for injection moulding

Plastic injection moulding is a versatile manufacturing process for producing just about any plastic part. Some examples of general industry applications are:

  • Housings for anything from HVAC systems such as water filter housings, to traffic light housings to casings for chemical dosing systems or power tool housings
  • Automotive interior parts such as dashboards, door panels, knobs and switches
  • Automotive exterior components such as mirror housings, light housings, bumpers
  • Cab interiors for off road vehicles, municipal trucks and agricultural machinery
  • Plastic components used in industrial machinery, equipment and tools
  • Plastic components for household appliances such as vacuum cleaners, food processors and coffee machines
  • Parts for sports equipment such as helmet shells, protective equipment, handles and grips
  • Containers, caps and closures for FMCG applications

Plastics for injection moulding

Material-01

Selecting the right material for plastic injection moulding your product is an important decision that will require careful consideration. The material you use will determine the aesthetics and functional properties of your product.

Commonly used polymers include:

  • Polystyrene (PS)
  • Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)
  • Polypropylene (PP)
  • Polyethylene (PE)
  • Acrylonitrile Butadiene
  • Styrene (ABS)

Other options are PBT, PET, PC, PC-ABS, Nylon and PPO. These provide improved thermal properties and electrical, wear and solvent resistance. There are also high-performance polymers such as PPSU and PEEK.

Additives such as pigments, glass or carbon fibres can be added for strength and stainless-steel fibres for controlling electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radiofrequency interference (RFI) or coatings can be applied as part of the finishing process.

Our technical team will be able to advise you on the best and most cost-effective material for your project.
