A BRIEF HISTORY OF OGM – PLASTIC INJECTION MOULDING COMPANY

Owen Greenings & Mumford Ltd (OGM) was founded in 1962 in a workshop in Oxford with a single injection moulding machine.

Over the next 40 years, Bev Wightman developed the business successfully with growth based on outstanding customer service, continuous innovation, the highest quality and a commitment to long term partnerships that add real value to every customer.

In 2001, Paul Wightman took over the business from his father and as Managing Director has continued to uphold the same core values.

More recently, ongoing success has led to the creation of a diversified group of companies within the OGM Holdings Group. Manufacturing from four factories in the UK, OGM now operates in Oxford and South Wales, and owns businesses in Bedford and Derby producing catering consumable products and printed films for packaging.

TIMELINE

1962

OGM is founded – it operated with one moulding machine and one tool to produce its own design of plastic door handle. Premises were shared with Owen Mumford Ltd in Woodstock.

1965

The trend for stainless steel tableware in homes in the UK leads to the development of the OGM TableMat range – a fusion of a plastic injection moulded base and a hand-woven stainless steel top. Sales grow with 6 assembly workers employed to produce the TableMat. Profits from this product and others in the range enable further investment in injection moulding machines and eventually new premises.

1963-1968

Plastic moulding for other companies starts. Ever Ready Ltd becomes the company’s largest customer with OGM producing torches and cycle lamps. The business moves to a new 300 m2 factory in Eynsham as trade moulding grows.

Our relationship with Siemens begins as we start to supply 50,000 Housings pa for the MM1 range of products and the business builds a bigger factory and warehouse
