We were delighted to welcome Liberal Democrat MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, Layla Moran to our Oxford site recently to share how the energy crisis is impacting manufacturing in the UK. Our conversation focused on energy consumption, current prices and the impact of the energy crisis on OGM’s business.
Layla was given a tour of the factory to see how our precision components are produced and asked questions about the manufacturing process.

After the visit the MP tweeted that the Government needs to be doing more to support small and medium sized businesses like OGM. She has also drafted a letter to the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy asking that consideration be given for a review of the threshold for energy intensive industries for the purpose of energy support during this current crisis. The letter also requested that clarification is given as to what support will be offered after the 6-month Energy Relief Bill period.
Current energy prices are heavily impacting growth and restricting the UK manufacturing sector at a time when the opposite should be happening. OGM is a business with foresight that has benefitted the UK economy. We have grown through innovation by investing in the latest skills and technology and secured new contracts both in the UK and export markets. The energy crisis is stifling our business, so many other UK manufacturing businesses must be finding it hard to survive.
Our thanks to Layla for coming to see what we do, listening to the challenges related to energy that are affecting all businesses, not just ours, and showing her support.
